Ever wonder where all that dirty coal comes from? Where Santee Cooper gets its coal? Where the coal that will be burned in the proposed Pee Dee plant will come from?
The answer is something Santee Cooper would rather you not know.
The answer is something that we, as Southerners, proud of our history and our region, as Americans, who love our country and its natural splendors, should be shocked and appalled by.
The answer is mountain top removal.

It as simply as that really.
We are destroying our Appalachian mountains in order to power coal plants of the sort Santee Cooper is busy trying to convince us we need.
Those of you out there thinking there is nothing wrong with coal, who think there is nothing wrong with a state-owned utility proposing that we use more of it in the 21st century, you need to watch this film and others like it. You need to learn about mountain top removal mining and consider the consequences of choosing coal very well.
Santee Cooper is not telling us the whole truth about their coal plant.

What is Santee Cooper lying about? They are building a coal fired power plant. Where do you think the coal is coming from, the clouds?
Didn't say they were lying, my anonymous friend. I said they weren't telling the whole truth.
From the Santee Cooper website:
"Santee Cooper has always played a major role in conserving and preserving our environment."
Yet Santee Cooper has decided to buy nearly all its coal from mines that are dynamiting the Appalachian mountains.
So the whole truth is that Santee Cooper is playing a major role in SQUANDERING and PERMANENTLY RUINING our natural hertiage, namely the Appalachian mountains.
I hope I am not misunderstanding your comment to mean that you support the destruction of the Appalachians.
You are aware that there are other ways to obtain coal, aren't you? You are aware that there are other ways to provide electricity than building another coal plant, aren't you?

So, if Santee Cooper or any utility for that matter, got their coal from something other than mountaintop removal, you're ok with that?
